What is Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine?

Like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, is a comprehensive medical system used to prevent, diagnose & treat disease in our animal-family. The focus of Chinese Medicine is on strengthening an individual's defense system and restoring balance to the body. A treatment is given with the understanding that the whole body will be affected rather than just a single system or organ. Therefore, unlike Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine treatments are tailored for each individual.

Herbal medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, exercise, massage and feng shui are all considered primary branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In Chinese Veterinary Medicine, the cause of an animal’s disease is attributed to both internal and external factors. The internal causes of disease include stress, nutrition and emotional factors. External factors would be such things as allergies, bacterial infections, viruses, vaccinations and numerous others. If an animal is able to maintain a state of internal balance, it is unlikely to contract illness from external factors. Traditional Chinese Medicine can be used to help maintain and restore balance to the body once disease or imbalance has occurred.

Traditional Chinese Veterinary MedicineDr Heather Matheson and staff are amazing.

My dog “Bailey” began having seizures when he was just a year old. After seeing 4 different veterinary clinics, countless different medications given at countless different doses “Bailey” was still having cluster seizures every three weeks.

Dr Heather did a series of acupuncture treatments, changed “Bailey’s” diet, started a herbal medication and adjusted his traditional medication. “Bailey” has had only 3 or 4 seizures in the past 3 years and is a happy healthy 5 year old dog!

I am so thankful for finding Dr. Matheson; she is a wonderful person and a fantastic Veterinarian.
